DCOV 19th Open Show Judges Critique

Jenny Delmenico

I would like to say thank you to the Dalmatian Club of Victoria for the invitiation to judge their 2008 Open Show.

I would like to thank the club for their hospitality and the exhibitors for their entry and for their sportsmanlike manner.

In Victoria, we have a strong presence of Dalmatians and I can see that the future of the breed is in very good hands with some very promising youngsters coming through from the baby classes upwards.

Two things that I consider need attention would have to be eye color and fronts. While over all the rear ends, heads, and temperaments are quite good, we should keep in mind the importance of overall balance and the soft, appealing expression admired in our breed.

CHAMPION DOG CLASS 3/3

1., CH DIMADAL ULURU
A pleasing liver dog with a kindly, soft expression. Lovely head, well filled front, level topline, balanced and showed well. Really enjoyed his day out.

2. CH SPOTOFCLASS MAGNIFIQUE
Another nice liver. Longer in body than No. 1. Also with a pleasing head. Nice spotting, tight feet. Would just like a bit more extension on the move.

3, CH TRUDALS ST ELMO’S FIRE
Yet another liver. Spotting not quite as neat as 1 and 2. a pleasing outline but carrying a bit extra weight which took away his elegance and affected his movement today. A lovely balanced boy again with a pleasant appealing face.

BABY PUPPY DOG CLASS 3/5

1. LENDALBAS ROHANRIDER
Black puppy with appealing dark brown eyes and a pleasing head. Neat front and level topline. Falls a bit at croup. Nice rear end. Shows promise.

2. TRUDALS COPPER HEAD ROAD
Liver boy with a lovely outline. Well balanced body. Would prefer a rounder, darker eye. Rear movement a little unsteady but overall a very nice boy.

3. BREWYNFARM IRISH PUZZLE
Another black. Pleasing head. Well marked. Well filled front and level topline. Just not quite the showmanship of 1 and 2.

PUPPY DOG CLASS 2/2

1. DALSTUBS WILD FIRE A typey black dog. Slightly longer cast. Nice flow through. Pleasing head with very dark eye color. Nice markings, strong muscle through shoulder and thigh area. I liked this dog alot. A little unsettled today which affected his movement.

2. LUVDBI BRINGING SXY BACK A Black dog with heavy spotting which distracted the eye. Would like more depth of brisket and slightly more filling in front. Level back, nice tail set on. Showed well.

JUNIOR DOG 1 / 2

1. GEMBOURT ROAD WARRIOR Black dog of good type. Head a bit broader than I would normally like and eye color could be darker but I liked the overall type of this dog. Well balanced, strong muscle tone, well turned stifle and let down hocks. Movement steady and I was proud to award him BEST DOG / BEST JUNIOR / BEST OPPOSITE OF SEX.

INTERMEDIATE DOG 2 / 2

1. DEBTIN PRINCE O DARKNESS Black dog with heavy mearkings. Pleasing shape, nice flow through and balance. Would have liked a bit more substance throughout and a slightly broader head but a nice steady dog non the less.

2. YARROWFELL HIGH SOCIETY Well marked black dog. Nice temperament. Lacking depth to brisket and filling in front which affected front movement. Nice waggy tail.

OPEN DOG 2 / 4

1. KALLUMUP OSKA Larger black dog with a broad head. Eye color could be darker. Well filled front, strong bone. Well marked, level topline but tail carried a bit high at times. Showed well when settled.. RESERVE DOG

2. TRUDALS BLACK MAJIC Black dog. Well marked. Pleasing outline on stack. Holds himself well. Still a bit loose through the font assembly which affected front movement today. Well angled rear with nice side extension.

CHAMPION BITCH 2 / 2

1. CH TRUDALS SHE’S SO FINE Quality liver bitch. Heavy face markings but doesn’t spoil her appeal. Well constructed front. Well filled with good depth and well ribbed back.. nice muscle tone. Moved with purpose and BEST CHAMPION IN SHOW.

PUPPY BITCH CLASS 3 / 3

1. KANDYSPOT FLEURWOOD LADY

1. DIMADAL ELLA ENCHANTED
Quality liver bitch of good breed type. Strong but feminine head, strong bone, lovely front assembly, level back. 2. JENDALLY FIRE ROSE
Very nice black bitch. Dark eye, nice spotting, strong but femine body. Level back, lovely waggy tail. Very happy girl with a tail that never stopped wagging.

3. WHYTEWOOD APRICOT POPPY
Another liver girl. Pleasing type. Not in the showing mood today as she is feeling a bit hormonal, but boy did this girl move when she got going.
